Summer Series - Holiday Essentials

As you're reading this I'll probably be on the plane to Greece or already there so I decided that I would do a Holiday Essentials post about all the very important things that will be in my suitcase. A lot of these things are obvious but I thought I would give you a little insight into what will be in my case. This is going to be the first of my Summer Series which will last whilst I'm on holiday.

Nivea Suncream

First and what I would say is one of the most important things if you're going away to somewhere hot is sun cream. Personally I like Nivea because it works for my sensitive skin, it smells nice and it sinks into my skin so I don't have to walk around with tacky skin all day. I like to take a few different factors of sun cream as when I'm first in the sun I like to wear a high factor - usually 50 but then after a couple of days in the sun I'll lower it to 30 (although if I get burnt, which I always try to avoid but it does happen, I keep it to 50).

Hat, Wipes, Passport
Keeping up with being safe in the sun is having a wide brimmed hat, I got mine from Dorothy Perkins for £5, hats are good for keeping the sun off your head as well as out of your eyes. They can also top off an outfit and give it that extra touch.

If you're leaving the country you will need your passport, don't forget this or else all the packing will be for nothing. Also, if you're going to somewhere in Europe you will need a European Health Insurance Card, these are free and you can apply for one of these here. On the NHS website it says 'Your EHIC lets you get state healthcare at a reduced cost or sometimes for free. It will cover you for treatment that is needed to allow you to continue your stay until your planned return. It also covers you for treatment of pre-existing medical conditions and for routine maternity care, as long as you're not going abroad to give birth.' So it's well worth getting one of these seeing as they are free.

I like to take some headphones for beside the pool or on the plane as sometimes it's nice to block people out, especially if there are some noisy people by the pool, splashing around and you want to listen to Ed Sheeran's new album.

Facewipes are perfect for on holiday, they can be used to quickly take your makeup off or even to refresh your face when you've got a bit hot.

If you're going near a pool or beach flip flops and a beach towel are perfect, I tend to get a pair of flip flops from Primark and get a cheap pair for £1 as I only ever wear them on holiday. I love bright towels and accessories, there's no room for dull colours in the bright sunshine!

I also love minis, I picked up a Nivea mini set which had the little mini sun cream, a lip balm that has SPF in it (always important, don't forget your lips) as well as some face wipes, deodorant and hand cream. These will all come in useful on holiday for putting in my handbag or taking to the beach.

Talking about minis I found this conditioner that is the perfect size for a week on holiday seeing as I'll be the only one using it. I just think that this is so cute and means I don't have to take a full size bottle.

I bought La Roche-Posay 50+ SPF because I've always worn sun cream on my face but that never really goes with makeup so I thought it was important to take care of my skin and get this. I like how it's so small so it won't take up a lot of room in my luggage, I could even put it in my hand luggage. You can also see a La Roche-Posay Multli Compensating Soothing Moisturiser peeping out which is the best moisturiser I've ever used, my skin feels so soft with barely any dry patches so this one is coming on holiday because the sun dries my skin out.

I know that when you go to some holiday destinations there is a chance that there will be mosquitoes or other insects so it's best to be on the safe side to get some insect repellent to keep the pesky bugs away.

Taking a plug adaptor is another essential for when you want to charge anything so be remember one or two of these depending on how many electrical items you're planning on taking.

Some sun glasses are always going to come in useful, they protect your eyes from the sun's rays and it's important to get a pair that are coated to give protection against the UVA and UVB rays.

A bikini is something most people will know that they need on a summer holiday, perfect for keeping cool on the beach. I again love having coloured bikinis, I probably clash with my flip flops but I don't care!

Lastly is something to read, I'm a big reader by the pool and I can get through so many books but a kindle is perfect for on holiday as it's small and light so easily fits into your hand luggage to read on the plane.

What are your holiday essentials?
