Buying Benefit

I was originally going to get a lipstick and foundation from MAC but then I found that my local Debenhams didn't have a MAC counter so I thought I would have a look at what Benefit was offering. If you read my June Wishlist you'll remember that I wanted the Benefit Hello Flawless foundation so seeing as I couldn't get the MAC Studio Fix Fluid that I originally went for, I bought Hello Flawless instead.

The lovely lady at the Benefit counter also showed me the new They're Real Push Up Liner and was explaining how it worked (I did already know because I have read so many posts on it which all persuaded me into buying it) and because I adore wearing eyeliner I thought I might as well give this a try.

I haven't really had time to try either of these but from what little swatching I've done on the back of my hand, these two look like they are going to be winners. They're Real seems to be quite easy to use to me, it comes out in a thin black line that only needs one coat and it is opaque but if you want a thicker line then you just have to go over it. Hello Flawless seems like a lovely foundation to wear, it gives a dewy finish that has a light covereage but can be build-able (this is what I was told). I quite like light to medium coverage foundations so I think I will be getting along with this just fine.

I think a spending ban is now in need so no more mini hauls for me.

Soap and Glory Bath Stuff

Soap and Glory
If there's one thing I love with any product it's the packaging and Soap and Glory really hit the mark. The cute pink packaging with really creative names, I mean The Scrub of Your Life is just brilliant! But it's not just the packaging that is amazing, the actual product it too! These are just a few of the Soap and Glory bath and shower products that I've got and they're all winners in my eyes.
Soap and Glory The Scrub of Your Life
The Sugar Crush Body Scrub is a sugary scrub that has smells like limes. It has such a refreshing scent, the first time I smelt it I wasn't too sure but now I love it. This scrub is really good, I get a small spoldge (yeah, you know this blog is very technical) and massage it into my arms and legs and they instantly feel smoother. It's a winner with scrubbing fake tan off too when it's going a bit patchy and needs to come off or before I put some fake tan on I like to make sure I'm putting it on without flaky, dry skin.

The sister to the Sugar Crush Body Scrub is the Sugar Crush Body Wash. They have the same limey scent and it is again very refreshing. The body wash is the splodge on the left. One of the things I really like about the body wash it that it comes with a pump! I know that sounds really sad but it makes it so easy to get the correct amount of product. The product itself is really good too, you only need a pump or two and it covers your whole body and it also leaves a slight scent when you've come out of the shower but nothing too strong.
Soap and Glory
The Scrub of Your Life is the middle splodge in the picture above, as you can see it's a different type of exfoliator to the body scrub, it's a more gel like formula and foams up slightly. The pink beads in the scrub gently exfoliate the skin, I think the difference between the two scrubs is that The Scrub of Your Life is a bit more gentle and is a gel like formula whereas the Sugar Crush Body Scrub is slightly rougher on the skin (not too harsh, don't be put off). The one thing that does put The Scrub of Your Life above the Sugar Crush Body Scrub for me is that it comes in a squeezy tube so it's easy to get the amount that you want whereas in the Sugar Crush Body Scrub I always manage to get a load of water in the tub when your scoop it out with wet hands.

Have you tried any Bath and Shower products from Soap and Glory?

June Favourites

This month has been a good one for finding new products and because it's getting warmer I like to change my routine a bit.

The Porefessional has been a new addiction to my makeup and I love it, I did a review of it which you can read here. I really like this product, it keeps my makeup on a lot longer and minimizes my pores too. The best thing about this is that I got it free in a magazine!

The second magazine freebie is the Eyeko eyeliner which has to be one of the best felt tip eyeliners that I've tried, it is a very black colour which is something I always want in a liner. The Eyeko eyeliner also stays put for hours too meaning I don't need to keep reapplying it. I still can't believe I got this free in a magazine, it's got to be one of the best freebies I've received.

On a whim I decided to get the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge because I've never really tried sponges for putting my foundation on and seeing as how much I love Real Techniques brushes I thought this was worth a try. The first time I used this I loved it, I decided to try it dry and I find this way works best for me, it makes my skin look flawless with only a very thin layer of foundation. I love this sponge, the only problem is that I find I have to wash it more than my brushes but that just means it's kept cleaner.

I'd read lots of reviews on the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipstains so decided to give them a try, my favourite has to be Peach Club which is a gorgeous colour for summer, it can either be applied quite sheer with a lip brush and some lipgloss over the top or for a bold look using the applicator, I love either look, it just depends on my mood.

My last favourite for June has been bright nail colours, this one is Barry M Gelly in Passion Fruit but all this month seems to have been bright pinks or corals because I'm feeling the summer! Bright nails look great with a tan which is a bonus so I've got a feeling bright colours will be worn all through summer because fingers crossed I'll get a hint of a tan.

What have you been loving in June?

TV Recommendations

I know in summer people watch less TV but here in England the weather isn't always hot or it's just nice to spend a little time out of the sun relaxing in front of the TV so I thought I would give you a few TV shows that I've been loving at the moment.

radio.com

This one is a Netflix original but you can get a free month where you could watch all of Orange is the New Black without having to spend a penny. I only have a few episodes left of the second series and I started it two weeks ago, it's just that good. Before I started watching this I wondered how they could make a TV show interesting about a woman going to prison, how wrong I was. Orange is the New Black is about Piper Chapman (although you'll forget she's called Piper because they call all the inmates by their last name) who gives herself up to the prison because of a crime she did years ago, as well as many other female inmates who I started to dislike at first but now some of them are favourites of mine, others I still hate but that means that the actor is amazing! Many of the actors in Orange is the New Black are quite unknown (they are in the UK anyway) but they have all made an impression on me now!

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk

I was late getting into Game of Thrones, I've only just finished the first series when most other people have finished series four. Game of Thrones is set in medieval times, there is Winterfell in the North where the Starks live and King's Landing in the South where the King and the rest of the Royals live. However it all gets a bit mixed up with Southerners in the North and vice versa (this is the best way I could think of for explaining it without giving away any spoilers). There are more settings too - The Wall is one, lets just say I wouldn't like to live there, it's on the cold side and they see lots of scary things too as well as Essos where the Targaryens live who don't get mixed up with the other characters but I'm guessing that could change in the later series? This is another show which has some characters I hate, one boy I would like to slap because he is so irritating and evil but I won't spoil anything if you are going to watch it - you should do though, it's so addictive!

en.wikipedia.org

This is one of the programmes that my dad and I have watched together since it first started, my mum realised what she was missing out on in the second series and by the third we were all hooked. I got the boxset of all three series for my dad for his birthday so we could all watch them together and it's just as funny watching it as it was the first time around. Rev is about Reverend Adam Smallbone who runs a church in London that has less than ten regulars. Each series has a different struggle and I couldn't pick a favouite. Rev also boasts a small but amazing cast; Olivia Coleman and Tom Hollander are unbeatable, Liam Neeson is also in the last episode of the third series. This might be one of those programmes that not everyone finds funny but if you have a similar sense of humour to me you'll love it.

www.bbc.co.uk

I'm sorry that my descriptions of the programmes weren't great, I didn't want to spoil anything for you but I felt I had to give some kind of storyline.

Have you watched any of these programmes? Got any recommendations for me?

A Good Gel Liner

Gel Eyeliner

I have too many eyeliners. There I said it. I know I do, but I still end up buying more. I'm a felt tip liner kind of girl because I find them easy to use and most stick around for quite a while. However I do like to mix it up a bit and use a gel eyeliner because once I've managed to get it right it does look the best and lasts all day.

I've had the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner before and I loved it then but it dried up and I never repurchased until now. I've come a long way since then, most of the time I can get a decent flick (although I can never get both flicks to match) so I now find this eyeliner easier to use and I don't need to have five tries at it to get it nearly perfect.

I haven't tried any other gel eyeliners but I really like this one, it comes with a brush that is pretty good, it's not too pricey and it lasts forever, could it get any better?! This eyeliner doesn't even print on my eyelid which a lot of eyeliners do with me.

The Fairytale Tag

I don't do many tags, I've done a couple but this one really caught my eye as you can get to know a bit more about me with the type of questions asked and I really like how the questions are linked to Fairytales so here we go...

Snow White - Do you consider yourself beautiful?
Sometimes I feel happy with myself, I don't know if I would say beautiful, usually with a nice dress and makeup I feel more confident.

Sleeping Beauty- How many hours of sleep do you get each night?
I try to get a good eight hours sleep, I'm one of those people that will be really grumpy if I'm tired, then after getting past the really tired stage is the hyper stage so I try to get enough sleep!

Cinderella - Do you have a curfew?
I'm at uni now so no one really tells me when to be back, then when I'm at home my parents understand that I'm old enough now to look after myself, I don't go out that much when I'm at home anyway. I never really had a curfew when I was younger, I was really boring and didn't properly go out till I was 18 as I was scared of being ID'd when going into a pub or club, scardy cat right here!

Rapunzel - Do you love being outside?
It depends where I am, if I'm in a city like London I love being in all the hustle and bustle but if I'm in the countryside I think I'd rather be inside writing my blog or reading a book.

Red Riding Hood- Do you trust strangers easily?
No I don't, I'm always wary of people I don't know, scared that someone is following me, especially in the dark or where I'm somewhere I don't know I don't trust people. However once I get to know people a little bit more I am very trusting, maybe too much.

The Wolf and the Seven Young Kids - Are you easy to fool?
I'm not sure about this one, I suppose it would depend who was trying to fool me and how believable it was.

Beauty and The Beast - What makes someone beautiful in your eyes?
Someone who is kind and can make me laugh. Also someone who isn't 'fake' I don't like people who pretend to be someone they're not or act totally differently infront of others.

The Little Mermaid - What would you sacrifice for love?
A lot of things, I'd give up chocolate if they asked and I love chocolate, however if the person you love asks you to give up something you love and enjoy then I don't know if they really love you as much as you love them.

The Frog King- What do you find disgusting?
Spiders ewww.

Jack and the Beanstalk- What plants do you have?
None, if my parents ask me to water the plants I always forget so I imagine I will be a plant killer if I have any myself so I think I'll stay away.

Puss in Boots- Do you have any pets? If not, do you want any?
I've never had a pet and I could easily go through life not having a pet, I don't want to sound like a horrible person but I'm just not an animal lover. I would never harm an animal but I don't have a longing for one.

Bluebeard- What is your weak point?
Put a spider in front of me and I will scream and run. Put some chocolate in front of me and it won't be there for long!

Pinoccio- What is your biggest wish?
To know in the future that I will have a good job and to be happy and healthy.

Peter Pan- What is your mental age?
Sometimes an 4 year old but sometimes a 40 year old, I love being childish and I still feel about 15, I can't believe that I'm nearly 19! But then I feel old in my views on certain topics.

The Star Money- What is your most valuable possession?
I have a teddy called Eric that I got when I was a baby and even came to uni with me, I don't know what I would do if something bad happened to him!

Golden Mary and Pitch Mary- Are you a hard worker or a lazy one?
When actually working and getting paid I work hard, when doing uni work I'm very lazy and I wish I wasn't!

The Princess and the Pea- Are you sensitive?
Yes, I cry at anything remotely sad!

The Worn Out Dancing Shoes - Do you like parties?
I have to be in the mood, sometimes I'd prefer to stay in and watch a film, othertimes I love being out having a drink or two.

The Emperor's New Clothes- Do you care a lot about your clothing?
Some clothes I do, some have meaning or have really good memories linked to them, I have one t-shirt that I spent a really good day with my boyfriend in and then at uni I got blue on it from putting it in with my jeans and I was gutted, I spent a good week getting rid of that stain (and I managed) However some clothes I don't care about.

The Brave Little Sailor - Do you consider yourself brave?
Not really I'm a wimp!

I tag anyone who likes the look of this post, comment below telling me if you did this tag and leave a link to your blog, I'd love to read your responses.

More Love Please

Build up Removal Shampoo, Cotton buds and pads, Eyelash curlers

I thought it was time to give a bit of love to those items that I use regularly but don't appreciate enough, there's the makeup products that get lots of love or hate but what would they be without the items in the background, they're always backing them up but if you took away the unappreciated items I know I would be stuck!
Eyelash Curlers

First of all is the simple eyelash curler, without this my eyelashes look flat and mascara can't do the whole job on its own and needs that extra bit of help. I personally don't believe that you need to invest in a really expensive eyelash curler, I haven't tried the Shu Uemura ones that a lot of beauty bloggers love but I'm happy with my cheap one from Boots which do a good enough job for me. If you don't have these girls go and get one!
Build up Removal Shampoo

Next is a good deep cleaning shampoo, I have Boots own, my hair has always been on the greasy side so after doing my research I figured maybe I could have a product build up which was causing my hair to look so bad. I then used this and although my hair is still on the greasy side it did make my hair feel very fresh and a lot cleaner. I now use this shampoo once a week to give it a deep cleanse and I don't think my hair is just as bad.
Cotton Pads

Cotton pads and cotton buds are regularly used in my house, I use cotton pads with cleanser as well for removing nail varnish. I bet most people use these everyday or at least have some around the bathroom but I know when we run out of them my life near enough falls apart, I once tried using toilet paper as a substitute, don't try that, it falls apart and you'll wish that you had a never ending supply of cotton pads in your life. Cotton buds have the normal use of cleaning out your ears but they have a lot more uses too. Got mascara somewhere other than your eyelashes? Dampen a cotton bud and wipe away, thank me later for that one. They're also useful for eyeliner, you might not even need to wet one if you're quick enough, I know I try too many times to remove a bit of eyeliner that went in the wrong place with my finger but a cotton bud is just the right size to remove it and you don't get eyeliner all over your fingers.

What are you unloved items?

Says It's A Miracle, Is It A Miracle?

Garnier Miracle Skin Cream

When I was in London I decided I needed something that was similar to a foundation but lighter and I stumbled upon this one. With Miracle in the name of the Skin Cream I was expecting big things and big things is what I got. I really like this cream, it promises anti-aging and Skin transforming, I'm not sure about the anti-aging part, I'm not really sure I want to look younger, 18 is young enough! But it does transform my skin. This cream comes out white but then when you massage it into the skin it changes to your skin colour. It surprised me at first and I thought I was going to be orange but after making sure I'd worked it into my skin properly it looked good. The next time I used it I made sure I only used a really small amount as I think that's where my orange colour came from.

The Miracle Skin Cream seems to blur out imperfections (no idea how as it's very light) but it makes my skin look glowing and even manages to cover imperfections. I do like to add a bit of powder on top because I have oily skin and I'm not keen on the shiny look. I think this cream will be perfect for summer when I won't want a heavy foundation but still want some coverage, just a bit of concealer and a dusting of powder and I'm good to go.

Nails of the Week

I decided that with it being June and the Sun being out (most of the time) I would have a summery nail colour. I love this one from No7, it's Hotting Up and this is just one coat! I couldn't believe it either when I first put it on. I teamed it with No7 Pink Meringue on each ring finger with Barry M Amethyst Glitter over it as Pink Meringue doesn't have much colour to it, this makes it perfect for someone at school where you aren't meant to wear nail varnish but you still do as it keeps your nails looking pretty but nothing too noticeable.
From left to right Natural Collection in Crystal Clear, No7 in Hotting Up, No7 in Pink Meringue, Barry M in Amethyst Glitter.

What nail colours are you liking this Summer?

Make up Wipes, All Bad?

Simple Makeup Wipes

Makeup wipes seem to be either loved or hated. Personally I really like them, they make it easy to take makeup off and most are great at taking waterproof mascara off too. I rarely use them alone, unless I'm staying at someone's house for a night and can't be bothered to bring anything else or if I've been on a night out and it's three in the morning and all I want is my bed, I'm not that into skincare that I'll care when I'm drunk!

A favourite of mine are Simple Cleansing Wipes, I'm a big fan of the Simple range as I can get very sensitive skin and these wipes don't irritate my skin even on my eyes which is perfect for me because I have to give my eyes a good wipe to remove all eyeliner and mascara.

Simple Cleansing Lotion

I use the Simple Purifying Cleansing Lotion (told you I like Simple) to give my skin a second cleanse. I find that I'm still removing makeup on one of the cotton pads after using makeup wipes so obviously using  wipes alone do no remove all that pesky makeup.

I can see why people think that makeup wipes are rubbish because they don't remove all makeup and they do seem like a lazy option but they work for me and if they work for you, why stop using them just because some people believe that they aren't any good?

What's your opinion of makeup wipes?

L'Oreal True Match Foundation

I feel that now is the right time to review the L'Oreal True Match foundation as I've been using it a few times a week for the past 6 weeks. I don't wear foundation everyday as I do like to let my skin breathe but if I'm going out somewhere where I want to look presentable this is the foundation I've been choosing.

I do have two different shades of this foundation even though it says it's True Match, I have the palest one in Rose Ivory which although I am very pale skinned this would be too pale for me and I would look very much like Edward Cullen but without the sparkles. The other shade I have is too dark for me and is Rose Vanilla, I find that these two shades mixed together make a good colour match with my skin. It also means that after I've been on holiday and (hopefully) got a tan I can use less of Rose Ivory and it should still match my skin colour.

I really like this foundation, it's the perfect medium coverage for me, you can still see your skin but it covers up the majority of imperfections. True Match is quite easy to blend, I like to use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush to buff the foundation in, I blend the two colours together on my hand first and then with my finger put it on my cheeks, nose, chin and forehead and get buffing. The foundation is one of those that doesn't seem to be there and I really like that finish. True Match is quite matte but after a couple of hours my t-zone does start to get a bit on the shiny side (although I do have oily skin so it could be just me)

L'Oreal True Match Foundation is a foundation that works for me and I would be likely to buy again, however because everyone's skin type is different so it might not be good for everyone. If you fancy trying it you can buy it here for £9.99

Have you tried L'Oreal True Match? Did you like it?

Fabulous Freebie

I love freebies, as soon as I saw that Elle had a free mini Benefit Porefessional I knew I had to get it. I'm not sure if this will still be available now as I did get it a couple of weeks ago.

I've never really been into primers, I got the Baby Skin primer but I'm not too keen on it so I wasn't sure what to expect with Porefessional but it totally changed my opinion of them, now I'm wanting to try other primers that aren't as expensive as the Porefessional as the full version is a little bit out of my price range.

Benefit's Porefessional claims to 'minimize the appearance of pores' and that is does, the primer also keeps makeup on a lot longer than without it and keeps my skin from looking too shiny too which I really like, I don't mind a dewy finish but it does tend to get past that if I've worn my foundation for a good few hours.
I like to use the Porefessional either with full makeup or with just concealer and powder (to stop that oily skin) and either way works well with me.

As for the price of the Porefessional (full size) it is £24.50 for 22ml which is a bit too much for me, I worked out that my 7.5ml is worth £8.35 which for such a small bottle is a lot of money. However it does work some amazing magic on those pores so I'm trying to use the least amount possible to make it last.

3 for 2 Always Gets Me

Maybelline and Soap and Glory

Boots had their 3 for 2 offer on again but it had to be on the same brand, I did want something from Max Factor which I couldn't get in the offer so I stayed with Maybelline because I really wanted the Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24 Hour. Soap and Glory also had a buy one get the cheaper half price on and I needed a new Thick and Fast Mascara so yeah... that happened.

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast, Supercat

I already have the original Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara which I love but I've had it for a while and I can never find any Soap and Glory makeup products when I'm home so before I left Uni I had to get a new one. I decided to try the Flash Extensions Effect Mascara as I'm always up for something new but wanted to stick with Thick and Fast. I then got The Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner as I could get it half-price at only £3. I am going to save these two as I have other mascara and eyeliners to use but I have them to try when I fancy.

Maybelline

As I said I really wanted the Gel Eyeliner which I've had before and I loved it but then it went too dry to use. I love this eyeliner, I find it so easy to use and gives an amazing finish. I then wanted to try out The Falsies mascara as a lot of Beauty Bloggers seem to like it and I love trying new mascaras (yes this haul has two mascaras, I like them okay!) I also needed a good brow mascara as my brows can get a bit out of control so I got the Maybelline Brow Drama which I've only used a couple of times but I'm liking it, it keeps my brows in place which is what I ask for, it's also a bonus that I got this free!

Just a Few Photos

As some of you might know I recently got a new camera, you can read about that here, I'm now finished my first year of uni, that went so fast! And I'm home and ready to blog a lot more but to make it even better I have my amazing new camera. Here are a few photos that I took on it, they are some of my first and I'm just starting to get used to it so I'm hoping they will improve as my blog goes on but for now you can feast your eyes on these...

My dad took these next few whilst I was away at uni as he is a camera nerd but doesn't actually have a DSLR, he's definitely an old school film man. This camera is beneficial to both of us, I can use all his lenses whilst I'm at home and he can use my camera too.

I hope you enjoyed having a glimpse into what I take photos of (yes I know very random) and I think we can all agree that my photos are a much better quality compared to my previous ones.

Go Watch

I'm a Youtube addict, I think I first started watching around September last year with Zoella and Tanya Burr and then it grew and grew, I think it really started go out of control (slight exaggeration but I really do watch Youtube videos everyday) when Vlogmas arrived, then I got into Sprinkle of GlitterJoe SuggJim Chapman and a personal favourite Essie Button who has the most amazing vlog channel with her boyfriend and the cutest dog called Reggie which if you don't watch you are missing out on!

Recently I've started watching ViviannaDoesMakeup and Lily Pebbles who have brilliant blogs too and their weekly vlogs are a must to watch as soon as they're posted. Another favourite is Gabriella who seems so down to earth.

A new addition to my subscribed channels is Shaaanxo who is from New Zealand, for one I love her accent and two she makes videos that are so easy to watch, some of the makeup tutorials she posts I wouldn't personally do as they're sometimes a bit too bold for me but she somehow manages to pull green lipstick off!

I love Carrie Fletcher's videos, she talks about real things that matter and if you ever need cheering up, I would watch her videos.

My last favourite channel to watch is the SacconeJolys who are a family in Ireland (although now moving to London) who vlog everyday. They have the cutest daughter called Emilia as well as a newborn Eduardo and six dogs! Their videos are so enjoyable to watch, they are posted everyday at 6pm and when I come back from work I always relax and watch their newest video.

June Wishlist

I've seen this Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipstick on Viviannadoesmakeup and she seems to love it so obviously now I want to give it a try, it seems to be one of those lipsticks that doesn't come off and I really like that, it's the worst thing when you've eaten a meal and then you have a slight tinge of red still on your lips which started off as really bold lips and hopefully this would get rid of that problem.

I've been eyeing up the Benefit Hello Flawless Foundation for a while now, this foundation is oil free and with my oily skin I think this could really help. I'm always up for trying new foundations, I have a few that I really like but nothing that is 'the one' that is perfect and beats all other foundations so maybe this could be the one? I'm not sure but I'm hoping to get it in the future.

The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette is another product I've been looking at for ages but not got yet, I love my Naked One palette but I'm not letting myself get another eyeshadow palette as I don't wear eyeshadow enough, a girl can still wish though...

This Umbrella for Cath Kidston is so cute, I absolutely love London and everything that goes with it so as soon as I spotted this I fell in love, however umbrellas and me don't ever last that long as living in the North it rains a lot so they seem to break because they are used so often. Maybe I won't be getting this one after all, it's too cute to be ruined.

I've heard a lot of good things about the St Tropez Self Tan, for years I've been wearing fake tan and I really like the No. 7 Perfectly Bronzed Quick Dry Tinted Lotion, you can read my review on it here, but I fancy trying something different and I know a lot of beauty bloggers love St. Tropez, the only thing putting me off buying this is the price at £45.00 for 400ml.

What are you wanting to buy in June? Have you tried any of these?
